Got to say “Arigato” to a lovely Japanese lady today. This just makes me happy.
idk man, imagine showing Arthur Weasley a gif for the first time. At first of course he’d just think it was a normal wizard photograph, but then you’d explain that muggles made it and his heart would just explode with joy over these muggles making such amazing shit even though they have no magic at all. How amazing. How inventive.
Maybe whenever you’re feeling bad about yourself imagine how much Arthur Weasley would enjoy meeting you.

"Is it serious, you two?"
"Yeah, I’ve moved on.”
I actually needed my mum to point out what this meant. I just didn’t get it.
#i think this is one of those moments where bones confuses spock’s lack of expression #with a lack of humanity #because as spock proves later on #jim’s death is the one thing he cannot #will not #accept (tags via adrasteas)
See, this is one thing that always manages to ruffle my feathers. The generalized arguments when it comes to Bones and Spock… Bones doesn’t hate Spock. Bones isn’t being malicious when he makes that statement. And, in response to the above, Bones doesn’t have anything confused. At that point in the movie Spock was not the same person he was at the end of the movie. That was kind of the whole point. You watched how the events changed them as they unfolded. You watched as new circumstances shaped their actions and reactions. You were watching them grow, and learn, and evolve to become the family that they are. Cause and effect. Would he have done whatever was in his power to get Jim back without breaking the Prime Directive if their positions were reversed? Likely. Would he have blatantly broken the Prime Directive the way Jim did… eh. Questionable. At that point in their respective lives Bones’ statement was valid and entirely logical given that Spock was willing to die himself in order to uphold the PD. My long winded and rambling point being that Bones wasn’t confusing anything. He was stating what was, at the time, Spock’s MO. It wasn’t until Spock witnessed Jim’s sacrifice that he understood it from the other side, and from Jim’s perspective. It was with that new experience, in addition to what happened with Pike, that he connected so fully with his humanity. Before that the argument can be made that he didn’t even fully understand it himself.
#i’d also like to make the point (in these tags but still) that #this conversation wasn’t actually about what spock would do at all and both of them knew that #like yeah jim’s asking what spock would do if shit was reversed #but what he means is ‘i need a perspective to counterbalance myself against; i don’t know what to do’ #because yeah jim is a tactical genius and everything but he’s young and the whole movie’s about how he’s a new captain#and also even more than a tactical genius: jim is REACTIVE #it’s part of why he and spock make such a good team as captain and xo #and it’s part of why jim and bones have always been such good friends #spock and bones have in common the trait of putting forth ideas jim VEHEHMENTLY DISAGREES WITH all the time #but jim needs that because he thinks more clearly if he’s thinking in reaction to something #we see it in every action sequence and we see it in how he got out of riverside and it’s what’s happening here #jim asks bones this question because he needs bones to say what he says #needs bones to respond with something that sets jim’s teeth on edge with its WRONGNESS #so that he can react to that wrongnes and do what needs to be fucking done #and bones says ‘he’d let you die’ because he knows jim needs to react like that #and because like the commenter above says — at this point in the movie it might even be true #but more importantly than whether it’s true specifically for spock it’s DEFINITELY true in terms of what the rules are #in terms of what most starfleet officials would do because: it’s the fucking law #and the disgust in bones’s voice isn’t at spock; it’s at the idea of letting people die #HE’S A DOCTOR #LETTING PEOPLE DIE IS NOT HIS THING #PLEASE SEE: HOW HE LITERALLY BRINGS JIM BACK FROM THE DEAD AT THE END OF THIS FILM #he says what he does because jim needs to hear it and they both know it’s wrong #it’s not about spock; it’s about saving spock #and at the end of the day i hope that’s everyone’s takeaway from this scene: it is about saving spock #for both jim and bones; it is about saving spock (tags via gyzym)
I’ve done it… I’ve finally finished The Silmarillion…
I need way more Ben Schnetzer in my life right now.
